Staking

Timechain employs Substrate’s Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) mechanism, a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) variation in which block production is delegated to a set of validators. A key feature of the NPoS protocol is that any token holder can become a nominator, delegate/nominate their stake, and earn a share of the validator rewards.

For more details, check out this documentation .

Analog staking mechanism provides a new layer of cryptoeconomic security. It allows node operators, investors, and community members to increase security guarantees and user assurances of network services by staking ANLOG tokens, with rewards and penalties incentivizing proper network operation.

This guide covers Analog Network staking: its mechanism, goals, initial implementation details, and future roadmap.

Key Concepts

  • Direct Staking: A token holder has the ability to directly nominate their stake to validators and receive direct payments/commissions from them.
  • Nomination Pool (Indirect Staking): A single account has the ability to stake funds on behalf of a group of users, managing nominations and receiving rewards.
  • Validator: Secure the network and earn rewards, which are distributed among nomination pools on the Timechain. Active validators can be viewed on the Timechain Explorer  or Polkadot.js Apps Explorer . For more details, see Timechain Nodes.
  • Nominator: An account that selects a validator to stake its ANLOG tokens. For Analog, this is the nomination pool’s account.
  • Commission: A share of rewards that validators and nominators earn for their services.
  • Era: A 12-hour period during which active validators produce blocks and undertake Timechain operations.
  • Session: A timeframe during which validators are selected as block producers for particular time slots. Each era is split into 4 sessions (i.e., 3 hours).

Staking Roadmap

Feature/TimelinePhase 1Phase 2
Staking Approach

  • Default Nomination Pool: Token holders will be able to stake their ANLOG tokens in a single nomination pool.
  • Analog Validators: The analog staking mechanism will only consist of Analog validators. Whitelisted validators to be added later.

  • Permissionless validators: Any node operator can join the network as a validator, and nominations from any pool or nominator can back them.
  • Direct Staking: Token holders will have the ability to directly nominate their stake to validators of their choice.
  • Permissionless Nomination Pools: Analog will democratize the creation of Nomination Pools by making them permissionless.
  • Governance: A Governance Mechanism will be introduced, allowing token holders to define the initial Nomination Pool configurations (e.g., how many pools users can create, how many members can join a pool, etc.).
Vested TokensToken holders will only be able to stake unlocked/transferrable tokens.Token holders will be able to stake both unlocked and locked tokens.
Staking DashboardAnalog’s initial staking functionality will be accessible through Substrate-based wallet dashboards, including Talisman and SubWallet. Check out How to Stake $ANLOG for more details. The Polkadot.js extension  will also be supported for advanced users. For optimal UX, Analog will implement a native, feature-complete, and best-in-class staking dashboard for token holders.
